Philippine business luminary Manuel V. Pangilinan to be honoured as 2024 Philippines Real Estate Personality of the Year
Manuel Velez Pangilinan, one of the Philippines’ most influential business leaders, will be honoured as the 2024 Philippines Real Estate Personality of the Year on 6 September at the 12th PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards. This prestigious award, granted by the editors of Property Report by PropertyGuru, recognises Mr. Pangilinan’s transformative leadership across real estate and infrastructure in the Philippines.
At 77, Mr. Pangilinan remains at the forefront of some of the country’s most impactful industries. His journey began with a cum laude degree in Economics from Ateneo de Manila University, followed by an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. His early career saw him working with PHINMA in the Philippines, and Bancom International and American Express Bank in Hong Kong before founding First Pacific in 1981, an investment holding company with a strong presence in telecommunications, consumer goods, and infrastructure.
Mr. Pangilinan’s leadership has shaped multiple industries. He serves as Chairman, President, and CEO of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), as well as Chairman of Landco Pacific Corporation, overseeing vital infrastructure projects that support the country’s economic growth. As President and CEO of PLDT, Inc., and Chairman of Smart Communications, Inc., he has led significant expansions in telecommunications that have enhanced nationwide connectivity.
In the energy sector, Mr. Pangilinan is the Chairman of Global Business Power Corporation and CEO of Meralco, the largest electric distribution company in the Philippines. His influence also extends into healthcare, where Metro Pacific Health operates the largest group of private hospitals in the country. His extensive leadership positions underscore his pivotal role in the country’s development.
Mr. Pangilinan has been recognised with numerous honours, including the prestigious Order of Lakandula with the rank of Bayani from the Office of the President in 2010. He also holds honorary doctorate degrees from several esteemed universities. Beyond business, he serves as Chairman of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), which drives initiatives in poverty alleviation, education, and healthcare.
A passionate advocate for sports, Mr. Pangilinan chairs the MVP Sports Foundation, supporting the development of Filipino athletes and promoting national pride through sports.
The 2024 Philippines Real Estate Personality of the Year award will celebrate Mr. Pangilinan’s immense contributions to the country’s real estate and infrastructure sectors.
