It’s official: all the winners from Indonesia Property Awards 2015

A hugely successful first year sees the country’s finest projects showcased at the prestigious gala dinner and awards ceremony in Jakarta

The nation’s most active developers and industry leaders were lauded in Jakarta this evening at the first-ever Indonesia Property Awardsm a glittering ceremony at the InterContinental Jakarta Midplaza.

A total of 23 awards were presented at the event – which joins Ensign Media’s prestigious Asia Property Awards programme in its 10th anniversary year – that welcomed more than 200 of the archipelago’s most respected real estate leaders and professionals, as well as VIPs in their respective fields.

“Over the last few years we have observed a major progression in the Indonesian real estate market, and the calibre of the developments during our launch year proves that Indonesian developers are serious about fostering the local industry through innovation and building superior quality projects,” said Terry Blackburn, CEO of Ensign Media, awards organiser and publisher of Asia’s industry-leading Property Report magazine.

Sinar Mas Land, nominated for four awards, brought home the highest honour of the year, Best Developer, for its commitment to building high-quality products that aim to improve the quality of life in Indonesia, and for leading in innovation for all stages of development, design, construction and marketing.

The leading firm also received the Best Retail Development award for The Breeze, and scooped the Best Housing Development (Jakarta) gong for The Avani by Sinar Mas Land, as well as the coveted Best Housing Development (Indonesia) trophy. It also took home one Highly Commended certificate.

According to Bramamesta Bagjanata, head of corporate marketing at Sinar Mas Land, winning the Best Developer award is very important to the company. “We are one of the most trusted developers in Southeast Asia and this award is a recognition that all of our efforts have paid off.”

Several key awards went to the PT Ciputra Group, recipient of a Highly Commended accolade in the Best Developer category. The group collected three awards for Raffles Hotel Jakarta, namely Best Hotel Development, Best Hotel Interior Design and Best Commercial Development (Indonesia); and the Best Mixed-Use Development trophy for Ciputra World 2, a project undertaken by its subsidiary PT Sarananeka Indahpancar.

In addition, a special recognition was given to PT Ciputra Group’s chief executive officer Candra Ciputra, who was awarded, by the editors of Property Report, the first-ever Indonesia’s Real Estate Personality of the Year honour. The award is the only one not chosen by the independent panel of judges. Mr. Ciputra said his work with the company (including the award-winning Ciputra World 2) was a reminder of the legacy that his father, Ir Ciputra, started.

“This (award) means that people see Ciputra Group as one of the leading companies – as well as the pioneer – of the real estate industry in Indonesia,” Ciputra said. “This award also means that we need to keep our standards up in order to meet our customers’ expectations.”

Another Best Developer nominee, PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk, was presented a Special Recognition in CSR for its initiatives in transforming lives through environment-friendly, high-quality and sustainable business activities. The Tangerang-based developer also picked up the Best Mid-Range Condo Development (Jakarta) award for Hillcrest House at Millennium Village.

Other big winners of the evening included: Kencana Graha Global, taking the Best Luxury Condo Development (Jakarta), Best Residential Interior Design, and Best Condo Development (Indonesia) for its outstanding Regent Residences project, one of the components of the Mangkuluhur City mixed-use complex in Jakarta’s bustling CBD; and the stunning, luxury island resort Bask Gili Meno by P Bask Gili Meno, a triple winner for Best Landscape Architectural Design, Best Hotel Architectural Design and Best Villa Development (Resort).

To ensure credibility, the entire Indonesia Property Awards process was overseen by BDO, one of the largest accountancy networks in the world. Meanwhile, the Awards’ esteemed panel of judges was headed by chairman Paul Noonan of WT Partnership, Quantity Surveyors & Construction Consultants, whose more than two decades of experience in Asia Pacific includes the successful delivery of 600-plus projects in Indonesia alone.

“I would expect that this event will strengthen and invigorate the focus on Indonesia,” commented Noonan. “It is highly appropriate that the Asia Property Awards programme now takes place in Indonesia, which in recent years has experienced a property boom and is firmly in the spotlight of Asia. The Awards cap off the hard work of these developers and I think this has been a wonderful night.”

Indonesia’s local real estate sector provided somewhat mixed results in recent quarters, especially during the last presidential election period, while the proposed introduction of luxury tax for properties caused heated discussions among developers and authorities. Despite these, demand for prime real estate, especially in Jakarta and Bali, remains insatiable, and the forthcoming implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community later this year also brings a whole new level of positive energy for the industry.

“Many impressive landmark projects have been completed and many more are in the process of being designed or built. The transformation of the skylines of Jakarta and Surabaya, as well as other cities of Indonesia, will be amazing, and we’re glad that many of them have been recognised at this year’s Indonesia Property Awards,” he added, noting that the winners this year showcased the world-class quality of projects in the country, and that next year’s edition would be much bigger.

Some of Indonesia’s most respected industry experts in real estate, architecture and design joined Noonan on the judges panel: Todd Lauchlan, country head, Indonesia, Jones Lang LaSalle; Hendra Hartono, CEO, Pt. Leads Property Services Indonesia; Ilham M Achmad, operational director, ILLY DESIGNS, Design Consultant; Mina Ondang, director, PT Cushman & Wakefield Indonesia; Cornel B. Juniarto, partner, Hermawan Juniarto (in association with Hogan Lovells); and Rahayu Ningsih Hoed, managing partner, Makarim and Taira S.

Presented by Property Report, the Indonesia Property Awards 2015 was supported by the Business Indonesia-Singapore Association, gold sponsor Kohler and silver sponsors TEKA and WT Partnership, and heavily promoted throughout the archipelago and across Southeast Asia through various advertising campaigns in multiple formats, as well as through top media partners such as Bloomberg TV Indonesia, Indonesia Tatler, Indonesia Design, Rumah123.com, Exotiq Property, JKJ, Indomultimedia Communications Group, Indonesia Expat, Hello Bali, and Lamudi Indonesia.

“We appreciate the essential support of our sponsors and media partners, and especially the trust of every developer who entered this year,” Blackburn said. “We believe in free-to-enter awards and we are looking forward to welcoming more developers from other regions of Indonesia next year.”

Excitement is now building, with the eagerly awaited South East Asia Property Awards 2015 grand finale around the corner. Top winners from the Indonesia Property Awards will join the big winners from other countries in ASEAN to compete at the fifth annual South East Asia Property Awards on Wednesday, 21 October at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. The event will be preceded by the inaugural Property Report Congress, a high-level forum featuring past and current Winners and Judges of the Asia Property Awards programme.
