Last year’s PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards was one of the most successful and diverse yet, drawing 20 percent more entries over 2018. More than 250 guests from all over the islands attended the sumptuous gala dinner where they witnessed 45 developers and projects take the property sector’s highest prizes.

These included the posthumous presentation of the 2019 Philippines Real Estate Personality of the Year award to Henry Sy Sr and the entire Sy Family of SM Investments Corporation. Henry’s grandson, Hans Sy, Jr, president of SM Engineering Design and Development Corp (SMEDD), and other Sy family members took the stage to accept the award on behalf of their ‘Tatang’.

Last year was also a momentous one for developers and properties based outside Manila. Besting established industry names, Visayan firm Cebu Landmasters, Inc gained the top prize of Best Developer, while Dusit Thani Residence Davao was awarded Best Housing Development (Philippines), marking the first “Best of the Philippines” win from Mindanao.

Winners from the 2019 PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards congregated once more in November for the 14th PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final in Bangkok, Thailand where they clinched the region’s most coveted honours. The Philippines was one of the night’s most decorated countries, representing wins for Best CBD Development in Asia; Best Township Masterplan Design in Asia; Best Commercial Green Development in Asia; and Best Commercial Landscape Architectural Design in Asia. Dr Andrew L. Tan, founder of Megaworld and a previous Philippines Real Estate Personality of the Year winner, was chosen as the first-ever recipient of the PropertyGuru Icon Award, also presented on the same night.

Christophe Vicic, Country Head, JLL Philippines and returning chairperson of the PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards, says: “Awards like this not only honour those who are deserving but also uplifts the standard of excellence in property development in this country.”

Alongside an independent panel of industry experts, Vicic will be diligently reviewing entries and carefully selecting the Awards finalists, qualified by way of conducting supervised site visits and deliberations. BDO Roxas, Cruz, Tagle & Co., CPAs will oversee every step of the visits and in-depth meetings.

Says Vicic: “The process for qualifying for these awards is stringent – it is no easy feat to be amongst the finalists. A significant part of the selection process are site visits which are very important to us, as we want to see what the projects are like in actual reality, not just on paper. We ourselves conduct inspections to see the state of the projects to ensure that our final voting is based on ‘concrete’ evidences.”

The 8th PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards is supported by platinum sponsor Kohler; gold sponsors Hitachi Elevators and Escalators and Boysen; official magazine PropertyGuru Property Report; and official supervisor BDO Roxas, Cruz, Tagle & Co., CPAs.

Editor’s Note: To ensure public health and safety, the Asia Property Awards team has decided to postpone the gala dinner and awards ceremony on 4 September 2020.
