PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Australia) 2020 nominations begin, new expert judges named
Prestigious competition calls on Australian developers to showcase their powerhouse real estate projects to discerning Asian investors

- Competitive categories now include honours for outstanding student accommodation, and educational development and design
SYDNEY, Australia –– 18 February 2020
PropertyGuru Group, Southeast Asia’s leading property technology company, calls on property consumers to put forward their favourites to enter the third edition of the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Australia).
A new set of categories that capture niche and broad segments of the Australian property sector are open for this year’s competition. Public nominations are now open until Sunday, 13 September 2020. Visit https://www.asiapropertyawards.com/nominations for submissions.
Qualifying nominees will be chosen in a variety of categories including Best Boutique Developer, Best Sustainable Developer, Best Breakthrough Developer, Best Lifestyle Developer, Best Commercial Developer, Best Hospitality Developer, Best Industrial Developer, and Best Mixed Use Developer, in addition to Best Developer, the highest prize of the Awards.
The 2020 PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Australia) will also reward the finest residential properties in Queensland. Trophies are on offer for Best Apartment Development (Queensland) and Best Housing Development (Queensland), in addition to prizes and citations for outstanding residential developments in New South Wales, Victoria, and Western Australia.
Recognising Australia’s status as an international education powerhouse, the competitive categories have been expanded to include Best Student Accommodation Development, Best Educational Development, Best Educational Architectural Design, and Best Educational Interior Design.
Other categories in competition will honour the best architectural and interior designs for apartments, housing developments, townhouses, hotels, retail projects, offices, landscaped developments, and mixed-use properties.
Key dates for the 2020 edition are:

- 7 October 2020 – Final Judging
- 20 November 2020 – Grand Final Gala Ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand
The PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Australia) marked its sophomore year in 2019 by presenting prizes to finalists from Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
Laurelled projects last year included UEM Sunrise’s Aurora Melbourne Central, one of the tallest skyscrapers in Australia, winning Best Apartment Development (Victoria). Another UEM Sunrise project, Conservatory, a freehold apartment near Melbourne’s historic Carlton Gardens, won Best Apartment Architectural Design.
Conservatory went on to best 10 properties across the region to gain the title of Best High-Rise Condo Architectural Design (Asia) at the 14th PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final in Bangkok.
Lui Violanti, Regional Manager for Western Australia at Inhabit Group, returns this year as chairperson of the Australian judging panel. “Being a part of the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards programme is invaluable in showcasing new developments in Australia to our northern neighbours,” he said.
“This interaction between the Asian and Australian property markets helps Australia to build not only great projects that build upon our cities but also to help build upon the economies within our geographical region,” he added. “This understanding of our regional property market, its designers, its builders and its construction practices helps develop the Australian Property Sector, to be active, informed: working together to build harmonious and financially successful local, regional and global projects.”
Three new members join Voilanti on the independent panel of expert judges: Benson Zhou, Director, CBD and Metropolitan Sales, Savills Australia; Leonie Klaric, Co-Founder, The Property Expert International; and Peter Esho, Co-Founder, Wealthi.
BDO, one of the world’s leading auditing and accounting firms, will ensure the objectivity, fairness and transparency of the 2020 Awards. The supervising team from BDO Australia is led by Sebastian Stevens, Partner in Charge, Advisory and Corporate Finance; Andres Reith, Partner, Business Services for Sydney; and Helen Mach, Associate Director for Business Services, Sydney.
