YANGON — 10 October 2019
One of Southeast Asia’s frontier markets proves its mettle once more with the announcement today of contenders for the 5th PropertyGuru Myanmar Property Awards 2019, presented by global brand Kohler.
A strong and diverse group of finalists, comprising an elite batch of 17 innovative companies, will be recognised front and centre at the highly anticipated black-tie gala dinner at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon on Wednesday, 23 October.
This year’s edition of Myanmar’s long-running real estate awards series will honour the finest companies, developments and developers in the country as selected by an independent panel of expert judges.
Frontrunners for the awards include Living Square, with nominations for Best Boutique Developer, Best Condo Development, Best Mixed Use Development, and Best Wellness Development. New Starlight Construction Co., Ltd. is also expected to dominate the ceremony with nods in categories including the Special Recognition in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The evening’s highlight will be the celebration of the career of U Win Aung, chairman of Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings. He is set to receive the sought-after trophy for 2019 Myanmar Real Estate Personality of the Year as chosen by the editors of PropertyGuru Property Report, the official magazine of the awards, for his drive to initiate industrial transformation of the country and push for economic innovation.
Main category winners will then be invited to Bangkok, Thailand for the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final, where they will compete with the top companies, properties and real estate leaders from across Asia-Pacific.
The entire judging process of the PropertyGuru Myanmar Property Awards, including site inspections and selection of the final shortlist of nominees, was supervised by the award-winning team of BDO in Myanmar, represented by Joe Yew Chi Jee, Director, Advisory; Nang Hnin Thet Htwe, Executive; and Hong Shi Ying, Senior Manager.
Awards chairperson, Tony Picon, executive director of Picon-Deed Property Consultants Myanmar, looks forward to helping identify developers as well as innovations in development that raise the bar for quality and design in the country.
“Given the long-term prospects for growth in Myanmar, some assets provide good opportunities to enter the Myanmar market. Due to the upcoming election in 2020 there still may be some hesitation from foreign investors to wait, although this may provide a good reason to enter the market now,” said Picon.
A highly respected panel of industry experts helped Picon recognise Myanmar’s award-worthiest properties and builders: Khin Maung Than, Chairman, ASEAN Real Estate Network Alliance (ARENA) and President, Myanmar Real Estate Services Association (MRESA); May Soe Yu, Founder of Creative Fox Design & Build; Richard Moh, Executive Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, and Special Assistant to the Chairman, MAA Group Consulting Engineers; and Dr Soe Thein, Principal Design Engineer, Consultant, and Project Manager, Clancy Global (Myanmar) Co Ltd.
Returning judges include Andrew Moraes, Country Manager, BECA; Ben Hickson, Senior Associate, Stephenson Harwood LLP; Charm May Thu, Managing Director, Your Property Finder Company Ltd; Stephen Zawmoe Shwe, Founder & Principal Architect, Spine Architects; and Zaw Myint Toe, Head of Strategy and Transformation City Holdings Limited.
The 2019 PropertyGuru Myanmar Property Awards is supported by platinum sponsor Kohler; gold sponsor Hitachi Elevators & Escalators; bronze sponsor Nippon Paint; official portal partner iMyanmarHouse.com; official newspaper The Straits Times (Myanmar Edition); official hotel The Sule Shangri-La Hotel; official magazine PropertyGuru Property Report; media partner Myanmar Insider; supporting association European Chamber of Commerce Myanmar; and official supervisor BDO.
