Thailand’s tourism revitalization focuses on embracing wellness and MICE industry for sustainable growth
TAT’s strategies aim to position Thailand as a global hub for health tourism, while Koh Samui leads the way in reopening to international visitors
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has revealed plans to revitalise the tourism sector, which contributes 20 percent of the country’s GDP, by presenting strategies to the incoming government. Newspaper The Nation reported the focus of the plans is on year-round, sustainable, and inclusive tourism. TAT aims to attract more international tourists by promoting Thailand as a global hub for wellness tourism.
Additionally, the importance of the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry in Thailand was highlighted, with efforts to expand marketing opportunities and support collaboration. The MICE industry has seen significant growth, attracting millions of travellers and generating billions of dollars in revenue.
According to Bangkok Post, the Thai government, in collaboration with TAT and over 130 health and wellness businesses, has launched the “Discover the New You!” campaign to promote health tourism and generate a minimum of 18 million baht in visitor spending by September. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed appreciation for the cooperation and believes the initiative will attract tourists and boost the economy.

The campaign is part of the broader Amazing Thailand Health and Wellness New Chapters New Experience project, offering meaningful wellness products. Media networks will promote 15 health tourism routes, and interested individuals can find more information on the campaign’s website and official Line account.
Koh Samui, an idyllic island on Thailand’s east coast, is leading the way for the country’s reopening to international visitors. Reuters noted the government has utilised the past 18 months to collaborate with health authorities and local tourism providers, ensuring that visitors can relax and enjoy their time on the island.
Stringent health protocols have been put in place to prioritise visitors’ safety. The temporary pause in arrivals has also benefited the island’s natural beauty, including its stunning beaches and marine life. Koh Samui offers something for everyone, with activities ranging from water sports to cultural sights. With the pandemic situation improving, now is the perfect time to experience an unforgettable vacation on Koh Samui.
