Juli Road No.1
Juli Road No. 1 is a great showcase of land use optimisation in the dense urban setting of Shanghai. Situated in the Zhangjiang Northwest Area of Pudong, the project is strategically positioned along the Shanghai Middle Ring Road, near Longdong Elevated Road and Subway Line 2.
The project deviates from the conventional high-rise office model. To mitigate constraints posed by the site, the architects adjusted building orientation and reduced spacing between structures, in turn integrating a central courtyard that enhances privacy while providing landscaped views. By excavating the entire site, the project significantly expanded usable space, incorporating pedestrian walkways and fire lanes to enhance connectivity.
An underground traffic system ensures a car-free surface, creating a pedestrian-friendly space. Sunken courtyards, green corridors, and a central plaza further provide a dynamic and engaging work environment. A standard column grid and central core offer flexible interior layouts tailored to tenant needs while linear green buffers separate buildings, enhancing privacy and aesthetic appeal.
Taking inspiration from DNA molecular chains, the façade design symbolises innovation in the biopharmaceutical sector. The structure features dark grey aluminium panels and champagne gold moulding, signifying a sense of stability and sophistication.
