Madhav Raman

Madhav is an architect and urbanist. He co-founded an architectural practice in partnership with VaibhavDimri after they graduated from the School of Planning and Architecture Delhi in 2001. Formallyestablished in 2004, Anagram Architects is internationally recognised as amongst the top emergingpractices in the world with a commitment towards delivering deeply contextual designs that encouragesustainable lifestyles.Over the years the practice has garnered much international acclaim including a nomination for the AgaKhan Award 2010 and inclusion in the Wallpaper* Magazine’s “Architects Directory 2009”. Its work hasbeen premiated at the Architectural Review’s World Emerging Architecture Awards 2007, the CityscapeArchitectural Awards 2008, 2010 & 2016, the Wienerberger Brick Awards 2010, the SAIE Bologna 2010,2011 and 2012, the Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction 2011, Asia Pacific Design Awards 2012,the International Design and Architecture Awards 2013, the Institute of Indian Interior Designers AwardsNational Winner 2017 and the Indipool India’s Best Design Studio Award 2017.Anagram Architects has also featured in the International Architecture Biennale 2010 in Rotterdam andBiennial of Design (BIO23) 2012 held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. They have been included in theArchitectural Digest’s list of the most influential South Asian designers for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018,2019 and 2020.Madhav has presented talks at many prestigious forums including the Preston Thomas Memorial LectureSeries at Cornell University, Ithaca, the Spring Lecture Series at RIBA, London, the PlanningCommission’s mid-term appraisal of the 11th Five Year Plan and the Urban Mobility India 2010. He hasalso conducted lectures and workshops on architecture, urbanism, sustainability, non- motorised transit(NMT), Transit Oriented Development (TOD) and information & communication technology (ICT) at theCharles Correa Foundation (Panjim), Indian School of Business (Hyderabad), Sushant School of Art &Architecture (Gurgaon), Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute of Architecture (Mumbai), Centre forEnvironmental Planning Technology (Ahmedabad), School of Environment and Architecture (Mumbai)and Institute of Urban Transport (Delhi).Keenly involved in academia, Madhav serves on the advisory boards of Sushant School of Art &Architecture, the Pearl Academy School of Design and on the Area Advisory Board of Amity University,NOIDA. He also serves on the advisory boards of the Centre for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE);and ​pucca.in​, which are non-governmental organisations involved in building core infrastructure forbase-of-pyramid stakeholders in urban and rural contexts respectively.Madhav moderates the annual Design X Design roundtable in Delhi which aims at building discoursearound Indian design across disciplines. He has also served as a curator at the Indian Arch Dialogue(IAD) in 2018. He writes regularly for the Architectural Digest and the Times of India in addition tobeing published in the “Bahaus” magazine, Architektur Fachmagazin, Designboom and Archdaily.
