SKP Wuhan

SKP Wuhan is a landmark retail destination that introduces the SKP department store to Central China for the first time. Located in Wuhan’s Wuchang District cultural zone, the project forms an immersive indoor–outdoor shopping enclave spanning more than 130,000 square metres of curated retail space.

Following the success of SKP in Beijing, Xi’an, and Chengdu, SKP Wuhan marks the brand’s fourth location in China. The project introduces more than 1,000 international first-tier brands, with numerous luxury labels making their Wuhan debut. The retail mix balances exclusivity with exploration, supported by experiential programming.

Approximately 60% of the existing structure was retained and transformed from a conventional shopping mall into a refined department store environment. This approach reduced material waste while informing a complete reconfiguration of circulation and fire-safety strategies.

Conceived as a glowing urban lantern, the façade features two layered geometric skins animated by the signature “SKP curves.” At ground level, four sculpted entrance portals heighten the sense of arrival. Inside, two light-filled half-moon atriums anchor the north and south ends of the store, establishing a refined atmosphere. A consistent geometric rhythm of columns and curved circulation routes reinforces an intimate sense of place.

The retail sequence culminates on the fifth floor, where an oasis-like rooftop garden is carved into the centre of the plan. Reflective water features and planting create a moment of urban retreat. Beyond the podium, K Avenue extends eastwards along the riverside as a high-end pedestrian promenade lined with flagship luxury boutiques.

The development won Best Completed Retail Architectural Design (Mainland China) at the 12th PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau) and was Finalist for Best Retail Architectural Design (Asia) at the 2025 PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final.
