According to\u00a0<\/span>The Jakarta Post<\/span><\/a>, Real Estate Indonesia (REI) has appealed to the\u00a0<\/span>government to offer additional stimulus<\/span>, such as mortgage payment deferrals for both homebuyers and developers since analysts have <\/span>already\u00a0<\/span>predicted the current mortgage subsidy program<\/span>me<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to stumble.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On 25 September, Finance Minister Sri\u00a0<\/span>Mulyani<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Indrawati<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>signed the\u00a0<\/span>Ministerial<\/span>\u00a0Regulation No. 138\/2020<\/span>\u00a0on the procedure<\/span>s\u00a0<\/span>for the subsidy disbursement plan of the National Economic Recovery programme<\/span>, which specifies p<\/span>lans regarding<\/span>\u00a0the mortgage loan subsidy.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The in<\/span>terest subsidy\u00a0<\/span>spans from three to 25 percent for the first three months of the loan depending on the loan ceiling of the debtor.<\/span> This is applicable for 70 square metre maximum property size and is restricted <\/span>to IDR10 billion (USD673,000) loan ceiling.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The internet subsidy will only result in substantial effects because it lasts for around three months. Meanwhile, many people now are\u00a0<\/span>being<\/span> furloughed without a severance payment,\u201d said Paulus Totok, the chairman of REI.<\/span><\/p>\n

He explained that mortgage deferrals would allow\u00a0<\/span>people\u00a0<\/span>who are either furloughed or\u00a0<\/span>dismissed\u00a0<\/span>from their jobs to keep their mortgage even though they lost their source of income, which would prevent<\/span>\u00a0huge defaults or<\/span>\u00a0cancellations of house orders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe government needs to take a meticulous look at the microeconomic data to understand the current conditions and implement the right policy<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are 30 million workers that\u00a0<\/span>are employed in industries that are directly or indirectly\u00a0<\/span>linked to the property sector.
