On 30 September,\u00a0<\/span>t<\/span>wo of the largest conglomerates in the country<\/span>\u00a0Actis and GS\u00a0<\/span>E&C\u00a0<\/span>Group<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>announced that they will be constructing and operating a\u00a0<\/span>21-megawatt<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>data centre\u00a0<\/span>worth\u00a0USD315 million\u00a0<\/span>in Seoul, South Korea, reported <\/span>Construction Review Online<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The eight-storey facility will be able to host <\/span>superior<\/span>\u00a0cloud service providers (CSPs), enabling them to\u00a0<\/span>support\u00a0<\/span>the demand\u00a0<\/span>in Seoul.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With\u00a0<\/span>one\u00a0<\/span>of the highest smartphone penetration<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0in the world at 95 percent, the traffic for mobile data\u00a0<\/span>accelerated by 26 times since 2012.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The data centre will be built in the Pyeongchon Cluster<\/span>\u00a0in Seoul<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>an area known to have <\/span>the highest concentration of CSPs.<\/span>\u00a0This facility will be constructed\u00a0<\/span>to Tier 3 standards, featuring 400 low-density racks for co-location customers and 1,600 high-density racks for CSP clients.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brian Chinappi, the head of Asia real estate at Actis, said that Seou<\/span>l has always had a strong appetite for data,\u00a0<\/span>but since the capital only has less than five leading\u00a0non-owner occupied data cent<\/span>res in the country, the demand has not been met.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis investment, where land and grid power have been secured, in an area popular with CSPs, will directly help to address that challenge,\u201d said Brian.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
