\nOn Thursday (9 April),\u00a0<\/span>Achmad Yurianto, the spokes<\/span>person<\/span>\u00a0for the\u00a0<\/span>COVID-19 Task Force<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>reported<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>that Indonesia has\u00a0<\/span>already\u00a0<\/span>exceeded the 3,000 mark, with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>3,293 confirmed\u00a0<\/span>cases<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In the last 24 hours, the nation\u00a0<\/span>recorded<\/span>\u00a0the highest number of deaths in a day<\/span>, having lost 40 more lives<\/span>, which b<\/span>rought\u00a0<\/span>the total death toll to 280<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>o contain the situation, t<\/span>he task force <\/span>administered 16,500 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests in the country\u00a0<\/span>to ensure they get more accurate results<\/span>. They have also\u00a0<\/span>assigned 300 medical facilities<\/span>, 35,000 doctors and 42,000 beds to\u00a0exclusively\u00a0treat COVID-19 patients.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover,\u00a0<\/span>President Joko “Jokowi”\u00a0Widodo<\/span>\u00a0said that they will also\u00a0<\/span>release an IDR104.5 trillion relief package to reduce the economic impact of the crisis among low-income and poor families. The said amount will be used to <\/span>provide basic goods and <\/span>to<\/span> help these households pay their utility bills.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Our first\u00a0priorities are providing\u00a0staple foods to the most vulnerable\u00a0and increasing\u00a0the purchasing power of people from\u00a0lower-income households,”<\/span>\u00a0explained the president.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He said that a<\/span>round 4.2 million people in the Greater Jakarta area and nine million residents outside the COVID-19 red zone will be able to benefit from the government\u2019s cash transfer and food aid programs.<\/span>\u00a0A portion of the budget\u00a0<\/span>allotted<\/span>\u00a0to the National Police will<\/span> also be<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>given as monthly allowances to the 197,000 taxi and bus drivers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“The pandemic has impacted\u00a0a vast array of communities, including\u00a0business people, civil servants, factory workers, taxi and bus drivers and more,”\u00a0<\/span>he added<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
