On\u00a0<\/span>Friday (03 April)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0Malaysia reported\u00a0<\/span>2,908 confirmed cases,\u00a0<\/span>the highest number of infections\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>n Southeast Asia, with 102 critical cases, 45 deaths and 645 recoveries. <\/span>Throughout the past few days,\u00a0<\/span>the country has <\/span>increased its diagnostic testing capability, from 3,500 patients per day a week to 7,000 patients daily.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Local authorities have also extended the Movement Control Order until 14 April, which <\/span>means\u00a0<\/span>employees should continue working from home and\u00a0<\/span>only essential businesses, such as pharmacies,<\/span>\u00a0banks,<\/span>\u00a0petrol stations, supermarkets,\u00a0<\/span>restaurants and <\/span>food delivery services can operate from 8 AM to 8 PM.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>To help the nation cope, the<\/span> local government has issued an economic stimulus package.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their control measures and growing cases have led t<\/span>he\u00a0<\/span>World Health\u00a0<\/span>Organisation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to believe that<\/span> the number of confirmed cases <\/span>will\u00a0<\/span>reach its peak in mid-April,\u00a0<\/span>showing positive signs of <\/span>flattening the curve.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBased on the available data,\u00a0<\/span>the WHO Country Office has projected that Malaysia will see a peak in\u00a0<\/span>hospitalised<\/span>\u00a0cases in mid-April. The number of critically ill patients is estimated to reach a peak within next week<\/span>,\u201d explained\u00a0Ying-Ru Lo, the head of mission and representative to Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore at WHO.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are initial signs of flattening of the curve, but this could bounce back if control measures are lifted and if people don\u2019t continue to take protective measures,\u201d he added.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\nDue to the shortage of medical supplies in public hospitals in Johor,\u00a0<\/span>Mah<\/span>\u00a0Sing Group\u00a0<\/span>Berhad<\/span>\u00a0pledged MYR50,000 to the\u00a0<\/span>Tabung Bencana Negeri Johor<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to p<\/span>urchase\u00a0<\/span>personal protec<\/span>tive\u00a0<\/span>equipment\u00a0<\/span>for<\/span> the healthcare <\/span>workers<\/span>. <\/span>Some<\/span>\u00a0of the funds will also be used to provide<\/span> medical aid and food supplies to\u00a0<\/span>low-income<\/span>\u00a0families<\/span>\u00a0in the area<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They\u00a0<\/span>also\u00a0<\/span>donate<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0MYR3.9 million worth of heavy-duty critical-case ventilators to the National Disaster Management Agency.<\/span>\u00a0A few months back, they\u00a0<\/span>contributed MYR100,000 worth of medical supplies to Wuhan, China.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The developer won the Special Recognition in CSR category, as well as two highly commended titles at the\u00a02019\u00a0<\/span>PropertyGuru<\/span>\u00a0Asia Property Awards (Malaysia)<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They also <\/span>donated\u00a0<\/span>MYR100,000 to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>non-government\u00a0<\/span>organisation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tabung<\/span> Prihatin YKN-JKM COVID-19 by Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN)<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>MYR1 million to the national COVID-19 fund,\u00a0<\/span>MYR12 million from Sunway Healthcare division for the public patients of the Health Ministry and\u00a0<\/span>University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) hospitals<\/span>, and MYR800,000 from their employees\u00a0<\/span>for their Sunway Group colleagues <\/span>working in the front lines<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the <\/span>non-essential\u00a0<\/span>trade\u00a0<\/span>retailers<\/span>\u00a0at Sunway Malls<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span> group has offered a free rental period<\/span>, worth approximately MYR20 million, until the end of the lockdown.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
