Oh Dongkun, CEO of Becamex Tokyu Co., Ltd., was named Vietnam Real Estate Personality of the Year during the 10th Annual PropertyGuru Vietnam Property Awards, held on Friday, 15 November 2024 at the Gem Center in Ho Chi Minh City.<\/p>\n

The editorial team of Property Report by PropertyGuru recognised Oh for his achievements in urban development\u2014a legacy that spans both Southeast and East Asia.<\/p>\n

Drawing on decades of experience in Japan, Oh is reimagining urban spaces in Vietnam, creating sustainable, self-sustaining ecosystems where people can live, work, and thrive.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to PropertyGuru for this recognition and for helping to convey my vision,\u201d he says. \u201cThis award carries a great meaning, representing our shared commitment to creating meaningful and positive change in Vietnam\u2019s real estate landscape. It is an honour to be acknowledged alongside fellow industry leaders who are working to advance our industry and elevate the quality of life for residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

His work in Vietnam, especially the development of Binh Duong New City, represents the culmination of years dedicated to mastering the art and science of urban planning.<\/p>\n

After completing his master’s degree at Waseda University, Oh began his career in 1993 with Tokyu Corporation, where he led numerous projects that revitalised cities. His renowned works include the redevelopment of Tama Plaza Station and the construction of Salesio Gakuin Junior and Senior High School. He also established Alaie, an innovative business focused on renovating and revitalising used homes.<\/p>\n

A sought-after voice on urban challenges in Japan, he has advised various government organisations on issues such as suburban regeneration, land use, and more.<\/p>\n

In 2012, he brought his expertise to Vietnam, where he took the helm at Becamex Tokyu, the joint venture between Tokyu Corporation and Becamex IDC Corp.<\/p>\n

Championing Tokyu Corporation\u2019s time-honoured brand of transit-oriented development, he initiated the development of Binh Duong New City, a 1,000-hectare master-planned urban hub in Binh Duong province.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Binh Duong New City has grown to cover award-winning residential projects such as SORA gardens I, SORA gardens II, The VIEW, The GLORY, and The TEN, as well as commercial facilities such as Hikari complex and SORA gardens SC.<\/p>\n

Blending Japanese construction standards with Vietnamese cultural nuances, Oh envisions a future where Binh Duong New City matches the livability and advancement of cities in Japan.<\/p>\n
