There was a 29.8 percent growth in the tourism industry in the Maldives this year over last year, reported <\/span>Avas.mv<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

From January to 23 November, 1.5 million tourists visited the Maldives, according to the Tourism Ministry. The number of tourists visiting Maldives during the same period last year was only 1.12 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tourism in the Maldives currently lasts eight days on average.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most visitors arriving in the Maldives come from India, accounting for 14 percent of arrivals, followed by Russia (12.3 percent), and the UK (10.9 percent).<\/span><\/p>\n

Indian travellers can experience luxury close to home in the Maldives, and despite the Maldives being popular as a honeymoon destination, it is also kid-friendly, according to the <\/span>New Indian Express<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The pandemic brought Maldives tourism to an all-time low. For the first time in its history, the Maldives closed its borders from 27 March to 15 July 2020 to prevent the spread of the virus, which resulted in a significant drop in travel activity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the past few years, the country’s tourism has steadily recovered thanks to the virus being under control and the vaccination of more than two-thirds of its population.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ZAWYA<\/span><\/a> noted that during the World Travel Awards (WTA) Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2022 in Muscat, Oman, the Maldives was awarded World\u2019s Leading Destination while the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) took home the World\u2019s Leading Tourist Board title.<\/span><\/p>\n

Travel and hospitality industry stars gathered for a night to celebrate global tourism’s welcome return and to find out who among them had won the world’s best.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tourism awards for the Maldives came just in time for its 50th anniversary since the first time it opened its shores to visitors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The World’s Leading Business Travel Destination title went to Dubai; World’s Leading Sports Tourism Destination went to Abu Dhabi; World’s Leading Nature Destination went to Oman;\u00a0 World’s Leading Emerging Tourism Destination was given to Batumi, and World’s Leading City Destination went to Porto.<\/span><\/p>\n
