According to the <\/span>Khmer Times<\/span><\/a>, Cambodia is now expecting to welcome two million foreign visitors and 11 million domestic travellers by the end of 2022, an increase from previous estimations of 1.2 to 1.3 million. Tourism Minister Thong Khon mentioned that the country saw approximately 1.2 million international tourists in the first three quarters of the year, which was an 861 percent growth from the same period last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Domestic tourists increased by 430 percent, growing to 9.6 million during the same period.<\/span><\/p>\n

The expansion, the minister emphasised, can be attributed to the receding impact of the pandemic, adding that since then, 2,708 tourism-related businesses have reopened across the country, helping more than 31,000 employees get their jobs back.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, it was projected that Cambodia would attract around 7.5 million international tourists and 16 million domestic tourists by 2028.<\/span><\/p>\n

Xinhua<\/span><\/a> reported that in the first ten months of 2022, Cambodia’s famed Angkor Archaeological Park welcomed 169,349 international tourists, an increase of 2,224 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n

The park made USD6.8 million in revenue from ticket sales during the January to October period this year, up 2,155 percent YoY, according to Angkor Enterprise.<\/span><\/p>\n

An estimated 2.2 million foreign travellers visited Angkor Park in 2019, generating USD99 million in ticket sales, according to the Angkor Enterprise.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Tourism highlighted \u201cVisit Cambodia Year 2023\u201d and the major initiatives that will accelerate international tourism growth, reported <\/span>The Phnom Penh Post<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ministry stated in a notice that these include promoting regional travel destinations at 10 international events scheduled to take place in India, China, Japan, South Korea, ASEAN, Europe, or other locations, as well as advancing the “Cambodia as Sports Tourism Destination” campaign as the host of the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and ASEAN Para Games.<\/span><\/p>\n
