Manuel \u201cManny\u201d B. Villar\u00a0Jr,\u00a0chairman\u00a0of Vista Land &\u00a0Lifescapes\u00a0Inc, has been named as the Real Estate Personality of the Year by the editors of\u00a0Property Report<\/em>, Asia\u2019s leading luxury real estate, architecture and design publication.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Villar has built\u00a0about\u00a0300,000 quality houses for all market segments in\u00a095\u00a0cities\u00a0and municipalities\u00a0across\u00a036\u00a0provinces around the Philippines.\u00a0The Philippine\u00a0Center\u00a0for Investigative Journalism\u00a0(PCIJ) has, in fact, dubbed him\u00a0\u201cthe dean of the (Philippine) real estate industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Building homes and communities\u00a0\u2013 he prefers the term\u00a0\u201cCommunicities,\u201d or\u00a0integrated urban\u00a0developments combining\u00a0lifestyle, retail, office, healthcare, education and leisure components \u2013\u00a0that have raked\u00a0in honors at the Philippines Property Awards,\u00a0would have been unimaginable for Villar, who grew up in a small rented apartment in\u00a0Tondo, one of Manila\u2019s impoverished districts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am deeply grateful for, and profoundly humbled\u00a0<\/strong>by, this recognition\u00a0from the\u00a0Philippines Property Awards,\u201d Villar tells\u00a0Property Report<\/em>.\u00a0\u201c<\/strong>For me, the Real Estate Personality of the Year\u00a0award is a testament to how Vista Land has been an instrument in improving the lives of Filipinos by providing them homes to live comfortably and communities where necessities are within their reach.\u00a0\u201c<\/p>\n

He adds:\u00a0\u201cBecause for every Filipino, it is a fulfillment to see a tangible fruit of their hard work. This is a recognition of our contribution to the industry and our continuous effort to build quality houses and \u201cCommunicities\u201d across the\u00a0Philippines.\u201d<\/p>\n

Building quality houses for Filipinos has always been the priority for Villar, and with the outlook for the property sector still looking promising in 2016,\u00a0Vista Land has a strong competitive advantage given\u00a0its widest geographic presence.<\/p>\n

\u201cRising\u00a0middle class bodes well for the real estate development in the\u00a0foreseeable future,\u201d he says. \u201cThe business process outsourcing (BPO) will also help sustain the growth of the industry. The sector is still growing at a healthy pace, as favourable\u00a0economic trends will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Vista Land reporting a record year in 2015 with a 14 percent growth in profits amounting to PHP7.2 billion (USD156 million), \u201cthe dean of the\u00a0Philippine real estate industry\u201d\u00a0truly has come a long way from his roots in\u00a0Tondo.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/strong>I want to be remembered simply as a man who built the most homes for Filipinos,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Through perseverance and dedication, Villar helped in supporting his family\u2019s education while growing up. He eventually received his bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s\u00a0degrees in business administration from the University of the Philippines\u00a0Diliman.<\/p>\n

In 1975, he established his construction supplies business that would become today\u2019s Vista Land.<\/p>\n

Villar\u2019s\u00a0company now operates several subsidiaries including\u00a0Camella\u00a0Homes, Communities Philippines, Crown Asia, Vista Residences, Brittany, and the newly acquired\u00a0Starmalls Inc.<\/p>\n

Outside of\u00a0Vista Land,\u00a0Villar\u2019s\u00a0family\u00a0also ventured\u00a0in retailing businesses, with\u00a0AllHome,\u00a0a one-stop shop for home essentials;\u00a0All Day, a convenience store;\u00a0and\u00a0AllShoppe, a department store.\u00a0As part of the diversification of business activities, the family also has\u00a0memorial parks (Golden Haven), schools and hospital (VitaCare).<\/p>\n

For his achievements, he was recognised as the\u00a0Most Outstanding UP Alumnus (1991) and Most Distinguished UP Alumnus (2004).\u00a0He is also the recipient of several\u00a0national awards, including: Ten Outstanding Young Men Award (1986) by the Philippine Jaycees, Agora Award for Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Management (1989), Most Outstanding CPA by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (1990).<\/p>\n

A self-made man and one of the prominent billionaires in the Philippines, according to\u00a0Forbes<\/a><\/em>, with a net worth of USD1.37 billion in 2016, he has been a central figure in the housing sector.<\/p>\n

Aside from\u00a0his distinguished career in business,\u00a0he also has\u00a0an exemplary\u00a0record in public service as the\u00a0first\u00a0and only\u00a0post-war public official who became both Speaker of the House of Representatives (1998-2000) and Senate President (2006-2008).\u00a0He is also the\u00a0president of\u00a0Nacionalista Party, the country\u2019s grandest political party.<\/p>\n

Villar and his wife, Senator Cynthia Villar, have three children following in their footsteps. Their eldest son, Manuel Paolo, a graduate of University of Pennsylvania\u2019s Wharton School, is currently the president and CEO of Vista Land. Their middle child Mark received his MBA from the University of Chicago and is now a congressman for the district of Las\u00a0Pi\u00f1as. Their youngest, Camille Lydia, finished her MBA at the prestigious IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain and is the managing director of Brittany Corp.<\/p>\n

Villar will receive the prestigious Real Estate Personality of the Year award at the black-tie gala of the\u00a0Philippines Property Awards 2016<\/a>, organised by PropertyGuru Group. on Thursday, 7 April at the Fairmont Makati.<\/p>\n
