May_Lana\/Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mti.gov.sg\/Newsroom\/Press-Releases\/2022\/02\/MTI-Maintains-2022-GDP-Growth-Forecast-at-3_0-to-5_0-per-cent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ministry of Trade and Industry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported that Singapore\u2019s economy will experience a steady, albeit slow, growth this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The organisation revealed that Singapore\u2019s economy expanded 7.6 percent in 2021, which was above the initial expected growth of \u201caround 7 percent.\u201d This can be attributed to the finance and insurance, manufacturing, and wholesale trade sectors. This also set the record for the fastest full-year growth since 2010, which was 14.5 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2022 GDP growth broadcast is at a maintained rate of 3 to 5 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a statement to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/singapore\/singapore-maintains-2022-gdp-forecast-3-5-2503391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Channel News Asia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Capital Economics\u2019 economist Alex Holmes stated that the Omicron variant is but a small obstacle in the way of Singapore\u2019s recovering economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;One of the world\u2019s most widespread vaccination coverages has enabled the Government to treat this differently from other waves \u2013 containment measures were actually simplified and slightly loosened yesterday.\u201d He added, &#8220;Overall, the economic impact of Omicron looks set to be relatively mild and brief. This is where enterprises in existing sectors increase their efforts to achieve sustainable growth through low carbon emissions, resource efficiency, and social inclusion, alongside the rise of new green sectors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2021, the government launched the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenplan.gov.sg\/key-focus-areas\/overview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singapore Green Plan 2030<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is a multi-ministry roadmap that outlines the five pillars that Singapore needs to achieve to be more environmentally sustainable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a green ecosystem to work, it needs sustainability professionals in the public and private sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National University of Singapore recently announced the establishment of a new Master&#8217;s degree in Sustainable and Green Finance. This aims to nurture and empower a new generation of professionals in the business and financial sectors for a greener economy in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Property Report editors wrote this article.
