OpenGov<\/span><\/a> reported that the demand for data centres that support edge computing and cloud operations is accelerating rapidly in the Philippines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In terms of investment, the Philippines data center market was worth USD280 million by 2020. In 2024, enterprise cloud spending is expected to increase from USD1.8 billion to USD2.6 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Peter Maquera, SVP for Globe Business, Enterprise Group, in a statement for <\/span>Manila Standard<\/span><\/a> back in 2021, the demand for data centres in the country is driven by three factors. These are the demand for edge computing, increasing data traffic and consumption, as well as the likelihood of the Philippines becoming a regional hub for cloud providers.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWhile there are political tensions between nations yet, demand for digital continues to be strong. As an alternative, companies have recognised the strategic location of the Philippines. And we\u2019re seeing an increase in investments. So what\u2019s exciting is the potential for the Philippines to be a regional hub for data and digital infrastructure in one of the fastest-growing regions in the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

There are several projects slated for this year, including a 12MW data centre in Batangas, which will be a 10,000 sq. m., two-storey shell, as well as baseline interior improvements, along with the first of four data halls. Local firm YCO Cloud Centers (YCC) plans to break ground in June this year, according to <\/span>Philstar.com<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Data Centre Dynamics<\/span><\/a> also revealed that a 100MW data centre is going to be developed by PLDT in Santa Rosa Laguna, the company\u2019s 11th facility, which it also claims will be its largest. The facility will also be designed according to LEED standards, and will use collected rainwater, reused wastewater, and renewable energy sources.<\/span><\/p>\n

SpaceDC chief executive, Darren Hawkins, also noted that “The Philippines ranks second in terms of data center growth in Southeast Asia,” following an announcement that SpaceDC and JLL will be building MNL 1, a green data centre fully powered by renewable energy.<\/span><\/p>\n
