In Taiwan, Central Bank Governor Yang Chin-long said that its monetary policy will be tightened to align with the trends in the global economy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Taiwan News<\/a> reported that the announcement induced speculation that interest rates in 2022 will be raised by the Central Bank.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, Kuomintang legislators voiced concerns that Taiwan could misjudge the current inflationary trend as temporary\u00a0as\u00a0the U.S. Federal Reserve did.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yang responded, \u201cTaiwan’s situation is not the same as the U.S.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yang noted that Taiwan\u2019s price index is well under control and that there is\u00a0no risk\u00a0of misjudging the trends.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For Taiwan to adjust its interest rates, Yang mentioned three conditions:\u00a0the interest rate hikes among major global economies,\u00a0the current inflation rate (and likely future rate),\u00a0and overall\u00a0economic recovery.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Taiwan\u2019s decision to raise interest rates must consider similar hikes in major countries.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
