Sri Lanka\u2019s government plans to\u00a0discuss\u00a0with foreign parties to obtain\u00a0green bonding financing facilities to fund ongoing green projects, reported Daily Mirror<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The government is initiating such plans in order to meet the nation\u2019s climate commitments and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finance Minister Basil Rajapakse said, \u201cI propose to encourage state as well as private sector banks to develop this type of financing facilities.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u00a0emphasised\u00a0the importance of global collaboration in helping devise sustainable\u00a0solutions\u00a0to global issues like climate change.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese cannot be solved only through domestic measures. These require collaborations internationally. Local and international interventions are being looked at. We must also be a partner in these ventures,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He particularly stressed the\u00a0country\u2019s\u00a0outlook\u00a0in\u00a0using\u00a0renewable and clean energies\u00a0to build\u00a0the aspired green economy, including future possibilities in exporting green hydrogen.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe potential to generate electricity from renewable sources such as wind, ocean waves and solar exceeds Sri Lanka\u2019s energy requirement. As such, Sri Lanka has the opportunity to produce and export green hydrogen from the surplus of renewable energy,\u201d he added.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, he noted that electricity-fuelled\u00a0renewable\u00a0energies\u00a0are required to obtain the benefits of electric three-wheelers\u00a0and motorcars.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The government has been focusing on such electric vehicles to reduce Sri Lanka\u2019s fuel import bill.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the 2022 budget, it was proposed to allocate an additional SLR500 million (USD2 million)\u00a0to support encouraging\u00a0private investment in the renewable energy sector, in order to fulfil\u00a070 percent of the aggregate electricity demand through renewable energy by 2030.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
