In India, the Assam government has launched drones to map 700 odd villages, which could help in demarcating borders with other states in\u00a0the\u00a0region in the future, reported ET Realty.com<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are around 22,724 villages in Assam, of which 700 had not been mapped and caused problems in executing government projects, as well as the\u00a0buying and selling of land.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In collaboration with Survey of India, the project started this week at No.1\u00a0Singimari\u00a0village under Hajo revenue circle in lower Assam\u2019s\u00a0Kamrup\u00a0district.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once inter-state border disagreements settle down, drones will also demarcate the orders of frontier villages once for all, government sources reported.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pankaj Chakravarty, principal of Assam Survey & Settlement Training Centre, said, \u201cOnce the pilot project in\u00a0Singimari\u00a0is over, there will be a massive mapping exercise in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia where the target is to map about 600 revenue villages.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dibrugarh and Tinsukia both\u00a0have villages that are inhabited by communities and ethnic tribes but have remained unmapped for decades.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWithout maps, boundaries are incomplete,\u201d he added. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the exercise drones are provided for by the Survey of India, the rest of the work is being done by the Kamrup administration and Assam survey. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A government source said, \u201cThough survey pillars are lacking in many inter-district, inter-state and\u00a0international\u00a0borders in Assam, the plan in the future is to erect these crucial demarcation pillars with a scientific\u00a0drone\u00a0survey. But a lot depends on the goodwill of bordering states.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
