During the recent U.N. Food Systems Summit, Kim Hyeon-soo, the minister of agriculture, food, and rural affairs, addressed South Korea\u2019s plan for food security, reported The Korea Times<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kim\u00a0emphasised\u00a0the country\u2019s strategies in improving access to\u00a0sufficient amounts of\u00a0nutritious and safe food, as well as ways to produce\u00a0environmentally friendly\u00a0agricultural products.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the ministry, such initiatives hope to support sustainable development goals (SDGs), which were discussed in detail at the U.N. General Assembly in New York City.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The summit is aimed at setting the stage for global food systems transformation to achieve the U.N. SDGs by 2030. U.N. representatives, government officials, business leaders, researchers, and members of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from more than 150 countries were\u00a0present\u00a0at\u00a0the event.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Minister Kim made it clear that Korea will be an active part of the fight against poverty, expansion of school nutrition programmes, and other global efforts for food security,” the ministry said in a press release.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ministry also added that the U.N. event was helpful in pushing everyone to reach a consensus that\u00a0the matter of\u00a0food security should be addressed\u00a0in a systematic manner.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“The government will\u00a0capitalise\u00a0on official development assistance to contribute to global security,” the ministry said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Key\u00a0areas conferred during the summit included how to nourish all people, advance equitable livelihoods, build\u00a0resilience\u00a0to\u00a0vulnerabilities, boost nature-based solutions,\u00a0decent work and empowered communities, shocks and stresses, and support means of implementation.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
