sector,\u00a0along\u00a0with their German colleagues,\u00a0gathered together\u00a0online\u00a0to launch a new scheme that will promote and\u00a0encourage sustainable tourism in the country, reported\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/island.lk\/sustainable-tourism-initiative-sri-lanka-kicks-off\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Island &#8211; Sri Lanka<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><\/a><span Industry and Commerce and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation of Freedom in Sri Lanka, in partnership with\u00a0Berlin-based\u00a0global management\u00a0consultancy\u00a0L\u00f6ning Responsible Business and Human Rights, organised the virtual event.<\/span><span industry leaders signed a commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, including\u00a0the Acting President of the Sri Lankan Institute of National Tourist Guide Lecturers, the Sri Lanka Chauffeur Guide Association, the Travel Agencies Association,\u00a0The Hotels Association Sri Lanka, the Presidents of the Sri Lanka Tourism Advisory Committee, and the Chairman of the Sri Lankan Association of data-contrast=\"none\">Representatives of the sustainable tourism pilot group, including\u00a0the\u00a0country\u2019s\u00a0premier\u00a0hospitality and travel brands,\u00a0were\u00a0also present to data-contrast=\"none\">Beginning 16th of August 2021, the scheme\u00a0is open\u00a0to all investors of the country\u2019s tourism industry.\u00a0It is based on the following approaches:<\/span><span data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Knowledge transfer in the form of gap assessments, process optimisation, trainings, and support for certifications.<\/span><span
