As reported on news.lk<\/a>, Sri Lanka sees potential in emerging as a leading destination for wellness tourism, especially with the growing interest in Ayurveda and wellness products and services among health-conscious explorers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the National Export Strategy, the wellness tourism sector is one of the key sectors for development, and the sector should receive more international recognition.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stella Photi, founder and managing director of Wellbeing Escapes, London, said,\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI think Sri Lanka has all the ingredients to successfully cater to this segment.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking at global wellness tourism trends, Photi said that authentic culinary concept is becoming popular, especially among those in the West with\u00a0increasing demand\u00a0for organic, vegan, and vegetarian food.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u00a0emphasised\u00a0that Sri Lanka has the ability and necessary ingredients to cater to this segment. Additionally, areas such as\u00a0family wellness and emotional healing are\u00a0rapidly\u00a0growing\u00a0throughout the world.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Indira\u00a0Malwatte, EDB chairperson, said at a conference\u00a0organised\u00a0by Sri Lanka Export Development Board,\u00a0that all the stakeholders\u00a0in wellness tourism should gather to successfully redress existing industry issues and promote\u00a0the country as a\u00a0destination\u00a0for high-quality\u00a0wellness\u00a0service.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is essential to promote wellness tourism as a key sector within the local tourism sector,\u201d\u00a0Malwatte\u00a0said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf we work as a group, we will have better bargaining power in the world market. So, it is important to form yourself into a group and try to work towards creating a brand for Sri Lanka\u2019s wellness tourism,\u201d she\u00a0emphasised.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Malwatte\u00a0said, \u201cWellness tourism is one of the key focused sectors in the National Export Strategy. The sector\u2019s strategy is aimed at global positioning of the sector, focusing on the development and promotion of industry through skills development of the professionals, improving quality and standards, developing synergies and coordination with all stakeholders, country branding,\u00a0and promotion in the key target markets including the UK.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
