According to Philippine News Agency<\/a>, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat\u00a0has assured that the tourism industry will continue to undertake all possible paths to\u00a0recovery and\u00a0accelerate the return of safe travels.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Romulo-Puyat said that the situation has slightly improved compared to the first half of 2020\u00a0when all\u00a0travels halted.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, we were able to restart travel. There was the Bayanihan 2, as well as a PHP6 billion loan that is four years to pay, has zero interest, zero collateral, and a two-year grace period for repayment,” she said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At least PHP3.1 billion in assistance were also provided to tourism workers to extend full support to the heavily impacted travel and recreation industries.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the Department of Tourism (DOT) will continue to promote a \u201cfun\u201d\u00a0Philippines, the department would also\u00a0position\u00a0the country as a \u201csafe and competitive\u201d destination moving forward.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, the government will continue to champion sustainable and responsible tourism in destinations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Save Our Spots (SOS) campaign aims to\u00a0launch\u00a0training programs and webinars that\u00a0encourage tourism stakeholders to reduce plastic usage and inspire\u00a0guests to participate.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The DOT also urges business owners to operate more environmentally friendly\u00a0by\u00a0revising\u00a0the accreditation standards for hotels and resorts to incorporate environmental indicators in its star rating system.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Boracay Island was closed to address its problem of poor waste management and over-tourism. The island is now repositioning itself as a prime \u201csustainable\u201d destination in the country \u2013 a \u201cplace of healing\u201d. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
