Developers said h<\/span>ousing estates in Hong Kong are increasingly becoming more pet friendly to\u00a0<\/span>appeas<\/span>e residents and homebuyers <\/span>that have adopted dogs and cats amid the pandemic<\/span>, reported South China Morning Post.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Approximately half of Hong Kong\u2019s major developments now cater to pets, a 40 percent ju<\/span>mp from 2018, as stated by property consultancy Knight Frank.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Martin Wong, director and head of research and consultancy at Knight Frank Greater China, said, \u201cAs people have been staying home and in town because of travel restrictions…more developers have\u00a0<\/span>considered<\/span>\u00a0adding some pet-friendly facilities to their projects.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As companies across the world implement remote working arrangements,\u00a0<\/span>this trend\u00a0towards accommodating pets is part of a wider shift to creating post-pandemic home<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>workspaces<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Workers<\/span>\u00a0are looking for estates more suitable for their adopted animals that have kept them company during these unprecedented times.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Developers are adapting as well<\/span>, namely, Sun Hung Kai Properties\u2019 (SHKP) Victoria Harbour<\/span>\u00a0in North Point<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>allowing hotel guests, residents, and mall-goers to live, shop, and stay with their pets<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A spokesman said, \u201cSHKP is conscious of pets becoming popular with many families in\u00a0<\/span>Hong<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Kong<\/span>\u00a0and, as such, is trying to make its residential developments pet friendly wherever appropriate.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cVictoria Harbour in North Point\u00a0<\/span>harbourfront<\/span>\u00a0is a key example, where residents or tenants can keep pets at\u00a0<\/span>home, as<\/span>\u00a0well as bringing them to designated outdoor garden\u00a0<\/span>areas<\/span>\u00a0on the podium outside the clubhouse, or the BBQ area.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This trend is not only apparent in Hong Kong, but homebuyers in Sydney, Australia refused to show up at scheduled viewings after <\/span>finding out that pets were off-limits at a property.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Michael Pallier, managing director at Sydney Sotheby\u2019s International Realty, said, \u201cDemand for homes with space for a pet, or overlooking a park, has also increased as many buyers<\/span>\u00a0have added to their family and adopted a dog. A few weeks ago, we had 29 enquiries for a new apartment in Rose Bay. As the\u00a0<\/span>building<\/span>\u00a0doesn\u2019t allow pets only three buyers turned up for a viewing as the remaining 26 owned a dog.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yarra<\/span>\u00a0One in Melbourne features pet-friendly amenities like a pet wash facility, and it also partnered with a\u00a0<\/span>business<\/span>\u00a0that offers pet grooming<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>walking and sitting services<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Singapore,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Midtown Modern<\/span>\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span>GuocoLand<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>renowned developer that has won multiple accolades at the PropertyGuru Singapore <\/span>Property Awards 2020,\u00a0<\/span>is designed with work from home arrangements in mind and consideration for pet owners.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dora Chng, general manager (residential) at the developer, said, \u201cGenerously-sized balconies provide spaces to\u00a0<\/span>house<\/span> pets with <\/span>natural<\/span>\u00a0air ventilation. The four-bedroom premium units also have a balcony\u00a0<\/span>extension<\/span>\u00a0to the master bedroom.
