BhavenJani\/Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has scratched their plan to hike property tax in order to increase revenue, reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/cities\/others\/south-delhi-municipal-corporation-drops-plan-to-hike-property-tax-101611080755811.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hindustan Times<\/a>. Instead, they will halve the capital granted to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">councillors<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0for local area development<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, said the chairman of the civic body\u2019s highest decision-making panel Rajesh Gahlot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ramesh Verma, SDMC additional commissioner, presented the budget proposals for 2021-2022, indicating a change from three to two categories of property<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0for the levy of tax,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">decreasing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> the amount of tax for thousands of residential <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">neighbourhoods.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">During a budget meeting, Gahlot mentioned that increasing tax on properties isn\u2019t an effective solution to increase revenue.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:120,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cThere are other\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ways<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> to increase revenue so instead of hiking property tax, we have decided to bring more people under the tax net of the SDMC.
